9. PROPAGATION EFFECTS

Atmospheric particles can affect satellite communications, especially in the higher satellite frequency bands, through direct signal attenuation, by increasing noise, and by reducing XPD.

The principal factor affecting satellite communications is rain, but other atmospheric phenomena such as clouds, snow, fog, dust and atmospheric oxygen can also have some effect on earth station performance.

	9.2 Rain Attenuation
	9.3 Radio Noise Effects
	9.4 Cross Polar Discrimination Effects
