<p>Dear blokes an' all,</p>
<p>I thought that this article which is about to appear in the
Canberra Times might interest you as you are all over 65, or
interested in being over 65!</p>
<p>Cheers,</p>

<div>Doug spoke to me this afternoon and advised that the
article was being finished this afternoon and should be
published in the next 2 or 3 days. I have read some of his
articles in the CT in the last few days and he writes very
well so I expect it will be a good article.</div>

<div>Hi John</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Re your call for over 65s to be at
Remembrance Park on Tuesday for a photo shoot,
to which I responded, I gained the impression
that it was to be about oldies keeping active
and fit, but when the reporter, Doug Dingwall,
called me for the follow up interview I
discovered it was about why people settle and
retire in Canberra. Apparently the ACT has a
very high proportion of over 65 retirees when
compared with the States and NT. He did not do
the follow up interview until yesterday
afternoon because he had to cover the
thunderstorm on Tuesday afternoon. I now assume
that the story will be in The Canberra Times
supplement for oldies; I cannot recall what it
is called exactly.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>The interview went for around 20 minutes and
covered everything since I first arrived in
Canberra in early 1962, including a comparison
of the Canberra of 1962, with the Canberra of
today, and why I decided to stay in Canberra
when I retired. On reflection, I should have
used the phrase from The Castle, ‘It’s the
vibes’.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Of the five people in the photo shoot, four
were orienteers, Ann Ingwersen, Jack Palmer,
Eino Meuronen and me.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>I have no idea what bits of the interview he
will use and when it will appear; we shall just
have to wait and see. If the five in the photo
were the only people interviewed, the story will
be interesting because of the narrow selection
of people, although the four of us would
represent a wide cross section of interests and
views.</div>
<div> </div>
<div><strong>For Ann</strong>. Was your interview
similar? And <strong>for Roy</strong>. Do you
know if your Dad’s interview was similar?</div>
<div> </div>
<div><strong>For Eric</strong>. Even though you
were there I don’t think you were interviewed.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Cheers</div>
