I have used headsets/boom mic variations virtually since going
mobile and that was a lot of years ago.<br>
I also spent a lots of hours on the road, suburban and highway.<br>

Advantages<br>

<li><font size="4" face="Times New Roman, Times, serif"> better
audio, mic close to mouth less background noise.</font></li>
<li><font size="4" face="Times New Roman, Times, serif">you
require less volume for a received signal, can hear what is
going on about you.</font></li>
<li><font size="4" face="Times New Roman, Times, serif">your are
not restricted with head movements when observing what is
going on around you.</font></li>
<li><font size="4" face="Times New Roman, Times, serif">able to
use both hands to control the vehicle and operate other
controls.</font></li>
<li><font size="4" face="Times New Roman, Times, serif">Removes
the risk of sitting on the mic causing timeouts during WICEN
Events etc. (guilty of that one pre-headset days, I lie it was
the dog sitting on the mic)</font></li>
</ul>
<font size="4" face="Times New Roman, Times, serif">Disadvantage </font>🙂!!<br>
<font size="4" face="Times New Roman, Times, serif">While driving
home late at night happily talking and hitting a water filled
spoon drain at speed (The old Majura Lane Road) and letting<br>
out a host of expletives while getting everything back under
control much to the consternation of the station I was talking
too.<br>

PS: elcheapo telephone heads sets with modified connectors works
as well as brand name amateur headsets.<br>

microphone for a mobile device. The amount of rigmarole one
would need to go through, including legal costs, suggests that
using a headset (one ear only) with boom mic might be easier?

Emergency services are allowed to apparently.<br>
I allways use a 1/2 headset microphone while
mobile with a locking PTT<br>
<br>
In the don't do while driving advertising the
state a Mobile Phone nothing else I am aware off.<br>
But now they have cameras to detect using mobile
phones, what next.<br>
